Come to church<\/b> (so they said\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jonny (not his real name, I put that so you wouldn\u2019t know we were really talking about Michel\u2026),<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

well, Jonny lives in the hood (drugs and all that)<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

and I\u2019d love it if he could meet Christians who would really care for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 Come to church man, you\u2019ll see, it\u2019s great!<\/span><\/p>\n

So I said\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From one hood to another<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

In those days, my church was totally lost in the sticks, in fact, it had just totally lost it, period.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the train didn\u2019t come as far as this village\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 Wait for me at the station Mich\u2026 JONNY.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll hitch-hike to church and once they get there, someone will lend me their car and I\u2019ll come back to pick you up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 Will they let you borrow a car just like that, man?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 Sure man*, we\u2019re like a big family! (*man is a nickname for cool people)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A new light shone in Michel\u2019s eyes, he\u2019s about to meet an incredible community composed of amazing people!<\/span><\/p>\n

(What\u2019s that? Oh, yeah, I mean Jonny<\/b>!)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hitch-hiking<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody\u2019s stopping! It\u2019s a dog eat dog world here!<\/span><\/p>\n

Then there are those with a fish symbol (ichthus)<\/span> on the back (of their car!!)<\/span> who don\u2019t stop \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

it must be because it\u2019s not their car! (Another Christian must have lent them it!)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After a 45 minute walk, I finally reach the church!<\/span><\/p>\n

Take that, man!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I go up to a Christian lady who often prays with her hands in the air and explain the problem to her.\u00a0 She retorts:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 No! I\u2019m not lending my car!<\/span><\/p>\n

(\u2026Afterwards, if anything goes wrong, you’ll see – there’ll be nobody who takes responsibility for it… and just because we\u2019re nice doesn\u2019t mean that we can\u2019t be nasty, blahblahblah and I\u2019m right anyway\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Auderset quits the church!<\/span><\/b> (by car)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m devastated! I\u2019m so disappointed\u2026 So, what\u2019s this all about? Is it all just for show?!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 If that\u2019s the way it is, I\u2019m leaving the church\u200a!<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll live out my faith on my own! I don\u2019t need a bunch of hypocrites around me!<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

As I head for the exit, a thought comes into my mind:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 If all the \u2018cool\u2019 people leave the church, there\u2019ll only be jerks left\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

(I\u2019m cool because I say stuff like \u2018Jonny\u2019 and \u2018man\u2019)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 You won\u2019t give up on your faith, but what about someone like Michel? Won\u2019t he be likely to throw the baby out with the bathwater?<\/span><\/p>\n

In other words: he\u2019ll reject God, when in fact, it was God\u2019s fans that he had an issue with<\/span><\/p>\n

(what was that? I said \u2018Michel\u2019?! I don\u2019t think so, I\u2019d have noticed\u200a!\u00a0 And what\u2019s more, it wasn\u2019t me, it was God!)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Ok, Lord, I\u2019ll stay\u2026so that I can make a difference and welcome people like Michel when they come\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Feeling better once again, I pluck up the courage to make the same request again to the guitarist in the church worship group.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 \u2018No problem buddy, here are the keys.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

he says without hesitation,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2013 \u2018Be careful though, the brakes don\u2019t work!<\/span><\/p>\n

he added nonchalantly.<\/span><\/p>\n

MichONNY (pheww! That was close!)<\/span> was still waiting for me at the station, meaning we were able to go to church together in the end\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

20 years later\u2026<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In between times, I\u2019ve been disappointed at the behavior of other Christians\u2026and for infinitely more<\/b> serious (to a factor of 10!!)<\/span> reasons.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

To be hurt, betrayed, vilified, epilated (if you\u2019re called Michel and have had your name published in a book when you\u2019d have preferred to remain incognito)<\/span>, etc. by those to whom you\u2019ve shared your innermost secrets will always be a bitter blow\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Transformational worship<\/b><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

To get back to my buddy from the hood,
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

it wasn\u2019t so much him as ME<\/b>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

who went through a life-changing experience that morning\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

as it was on that day that I made up my mind:
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though my family sometimes lets me down,<\/span><\/p>\n

it will never stop being my family and I\u2019ll always be a part of it.<\/span><\/p>\n
